Magick in Wicca, The Will & Discipline.

I've read in a book about Wicca / 'Principles of Wicca' by Vivianne Crowley /, that one of preconditions for the magick to work, is that one needs to really want the magick to work, be determined, disciplined. The willpower is neccessary precondition.

For example, as with Candle Magick - if one lacks the desire, discipline or will to light the candle / as described below / every day for eight days or even a lunar month, there's no point even trying - it won't work.

The proper candle magick requires one to visualize desired effect of magick as if it really, already happened, as one lights the candle, and to speak some verses. The verses can be taken from Vivianne's book, or sometimes it can be spoken heart's desire - as long as it's wise and adheres to the rules of magick / also described in Vivainne's book /. One also needs to work with chakras and energies, making energies flow into one's hands that hold the candle, using the visualization as a tool for controlling the energy flow, and to rub oils into the candle of carefully chosen color. Choosing the proper timing to work the magick is important too. And finally - the sacred space needs to be clean like Temple, and one must ensure that nothing will interrupt the casting - turning off the phone, telling one's roomates to not interrupt one's private meditation moments, etc.

Preparing & ensuring the proper conditions for casting (like cleaning one's apartment, or telling roomates one's need for private moments) are empowering in itself. These 'acts of will' are an important part of spellcasting.

A few notes about Magic, Clairvoyance, Brainwaves & Chakras in Wicca.

About.

Just a few ideas to note, taken from 'Principles of Wicca. The only introduction you'll ever need.' book by Vivianne Crowley.

Magick, High & Low.

In Wicca there's place both for natural magic / low magic / and for high magick.

High magick is mostly for spiritual development. / I think that spiritual development is morality, knowledge/truth & supernatural powers /.

Low magic is practical, it often means changing material plane according to witch's wishes & will / supernatural powers /.

Clairvoyance & Magic.

Clairvoyance - also known as Second Sight or Sixth Sense - is accepting 'signals' coming from outside, often in form of visions.

Such signals often manifest themselves during one's sleep.

Clairvoyance is used to foretell the future, and there are many means to achieve this.

Magic is sending energies from inside to outside world, to change the material plane, to change the world.

Components used in Magic.

Tools as wand or candle's flame can be useful, but the most important are inner processes that occur in spellcaster:
- Visualization,
- Concentration,
- Altered States of Consciousness / Trance,
- Ethreal Energy.

Trance, Brain State & Waves.

Usually brain functions in state called: 'Beta', a swift pattern of Activity. It's very useful state - when we pass the street, to the other side of the street, we do not want to be bombarded with 'important spiritual visions', for example.

'Theta' waves are much slower state, commonly achieved during the REM phase of sleep or during meditation. During the Theta State one often receives 'signals' from 'beyond'. I think it's both spiritual and more or less random messages, of one's present, future and past. During 'Theta' state mind's limits are penetrated and sometimes 'leak' occurs from one person to another. One should be cautious when opening oneself to the 'Theta' state, as sudden opening to dangerous mind contacts might result in serious mental illness.

Between the 'Theta' and 'Beta' there's also 'Alpha' state. It's achieved usually when we relax with eyes closed. Alpha state is the gateway to deeper states of consciousness that are neccessary during the magical processes.

Ethereal Body & Chakras.

Witches always believed that body has energies, that can be directed, used or sent elsewhere to achieve certain result.

One of such energies is emited by ethereal body that surrounds and penetrate physical body. Ethereal body is equipped with special centers, called in sanskrit: 'Chakras', which means: 'Wheels'.

Through chakras, energy can be received and sent.

Wicca Made Easy: Guided visualization: Storytelling.

'There are many shamanic techniques, called ecstatic practices, that enable you to gain access to the Other World; among them are dancing, drumming and journeying, fasting, ritual and working with sacred plants.

There's also the age-old magic of storytelling, now called guided visualization. The right stories told in the right way for the right reasons can take you into the realms of Spirit'.

--
I've positioned myself confortably, closed eyes and breathed deeply, relaxing.

I've felt my body relax as I exhaled, and felt my mind calm itself when I inhaled.

My hands over my heart, and I felt it's steady, slow rythm.

My breath reached outward and deeper inward, and I've felt it to connect inner and outer, outer and beyond, beyond and within.

I've felt my consciousness changing, shifting, opening into the radiant dimensions within and beyond my physical body. As I've continued breathing I've felt myself rising, free to move anywhere.

In front of me door appeared. Old, beautiful, wooden door with handle made of gold in the shape of a curving branch. I've gripped the handle and pulled, but doors were heavy. I've pulled it harder and it opened.

I've found myself in disappearing mist, in the magical, natural land in the spring-time of the year. Following a carpet of green grass, full of spring violets. The sun was rising, the sky was blue and there was a soft warm breeze.

I've inhaled and filled myself with energy of this place.

Followed a well-worn path through a meadow and into the woods. With birdsongs in background, i've heard a stream with small rocks and water plants. Through the stream i've finally reached woods.

I've opened my eyes, and found in front of me a being full of love an compassion. It was green man, who was my guide.

Why a man appeared instead of woman?

I am not a gay, and woman would probably be a competition for a buddhist witch that I love. So the man came, for it was safer choice for this gender.

I've opened my heart and received his blessings, whatever needed was offered.

I've felt blessings, felt the energy of Creation coursing through me. It was place of Spirit.

Feeling my body infused with light and energy, love and Spirit, there was something in my hands, a gift for the Green Man.

There was something in my hands, something shaped from this energy. A sphere of light, with quickly moving butterfly-alike wings. A symbol of beauty flowering, after living for a while as a larva.

I've offered my gift and said thanks to the green man.

Time in this world came to an end. I've returned the way I came, past the door into my apartment, into my body, into the present.

I've returned with the power of Creation to manifest love and beauty, to give shape and form to Spirit, to create life that i long for. This was magic i am seeking.

I've opened my eyes, and clapped my hands three times, to help me ground myself and return consciousness to normal.

My feelings during this practice could be described as spring-time, young and beautiful. I am grateful for the green man's gift, perhaps he was best guide for me for now.

I've described in short my Guided visualization: Storytelling practice in my magical journal (this blog is my magical journal, among other topics).

Thoughtform & Energy.

About.

Just as sound can alter your consciousness and a phrase can help magic manifest, an image or symbol can provide a visual focus for meditation and for magic.

In traditional magical parlance,
what you focus on and project energy into (...) is called a
'thought form.'

/ EN: 'thought form' = PL: 'myślokształt' /.

It's also called 'setting your intention'.

Blog author's comment.

Thought forms can be visualized, sending energies can also be visualized.

Thought forms play their parts in determining what happens when energy is sent to them.

Traditional tools for directing energies are: Athamé and Wand, but the trained mind alone can do energy projection/direction even without these tools.

Energies in one's body can be raised by performing tiring, ecstatic practices such as:
- dancing,
- running on a treadmill,
- riding a home exercise bike,
- performing martial arts (for example: Karate) kata forms,
- practicing Qi Gong,
- going to a hard rock concert,
- etc...

One can combine dancing and/or other energy-rise exercises with chanting and/or drumming, as well.

etc...

After performing this/these practice(s), one can feel the body's heat rise, and can use imagination, body/hand(s) gesture(s), and/or other traditional tools to direct that energy before it dissipates.

Sometimes it's a good idea to speak/shout/think one's wishes as energies are directed/sent.

There's also the Wiccan rite called: 'Cone of Power' that uses these energy-rising, wishing & directing practices.

Wicca Made Easy: Magical Chanting ('Nice, Scented, Attractive').

Chanting is one of the most joyful ways to alter our consciousness
(which has been scientifically proven),
and make magic.

I've given some thought to a short phrase that expresses what I want to change, accomplish, create in life. I didn't overthink, letting my playful side have some fun composing something that I enjoy.

Nice, Scented, Attractive, ...
Nice, Scented, Attractive, ...
Nice, Scented, Attractive, ...
Nice, Scented, Attractive, ...
Nice, Scented, Attractive, ...
Nice, Scented, Attractive, ...
Nice, Scented, Attractive, ...
...

I sat in a place where i wouldn't be disturbed. I've breathed until I felt my mind and body grow quiet and peaceful. I've felt energy flowing through me and around me.

I've felt my consciousness shift and my perception became clearer. I've felt my heart open, i've felt myself to be increasingly connected to the Sacred. I've felt myself coming into union and wholeness. I've thanked Creation for receiving my intention, my energy, my magic.

I've inhaled fully and naturally. I've chanted my enchantment as I exhaled.

...

I've completed the Chant, as described in a book ('Wicca Made Easy', by Phyllis Curott).

I've created a Spell, and wrote it in my Magical Journal (this blog is my magical Journal, among other topics).

What you chant, repeat, visualize,
imagine evokes change within
you and in the world.

Wicca Made Easy: Purifying Myself & Experiencing the Divine.

The book arrived.

After reading introduction and first chapters, i've found a salt-water purification practice and guided meditation practice for experiencing the Divine presence.

I did the purifying, holy bath ... and then observed how my disturbing thoughts and feelings go down the drain with salt-water.

Then after a while of rest i practiced meditation for experiencing the Divine presence.

Some breaths, some muscles tensing & relaxation in the whole body, then i've set my focus on an occasion when i've felt the Divine presence. In was in the nearby park when i've seen a young man dressed in Mahakala cloak behind me. I've felt blessings & energies rushing around and through me. If i am remembering correctly, I was about 25 years old when this happened.

On another day, i repeated the practice of experiencing the Divine presence.

I've experienced the Blessings of Warm, Loving and Protecting Energies, I've felt Calmness and Peace when i've meditated in a Buddhist Center. I think that Parvati, Hindu deity of Power played a part in this. Voices in my head, some of them I associate with certain Buddhist Teacher whose name I won't reveal here, tell me that Parvati played her part in blessings for sure. I'll include Parvati in my further practices, when needed.

I've asked the Divine Couple - the Mahakala and Parvati to stay with me. I've asked them to Protect and Guide me, in service for the Buddha Karmapa 17th Trinley Thaye Dorje. I'll offer Them something worthwhile as well. I know that Mahakala accepts Cookies and Tea, and from what i've seen - Parvati likes Light & Flowers. Perhaps the Lotus Incense will be a nice offering for her.

/ Parvati, the Hindu Deity is the one who gives life energy or Shakti to all beings. When Parvati, godess of Power, manifests as Kali, She is the Fierce Protector as well. /

I've said thanks, and opened my eyes.

Now i am writing about this on my blog, for it is my magical journal, among other topics.

My Desire for Wiccan Initiation.

As the time flows, I want more and more to be initiated in Wicca (Wicca is a Religion of Witchcraft, more or less), beside Buddhism. I am aware that following too many of spiritual paths might lead to confusion and insanity, but combining just these two seems to be nice and fine still.

I hope that my Buddhist Teachers do not mind, and perhaps we need time to prepare for that initiation. I'll wait patiently for as long as it's needed and necessary.

I need to read two books before I decide finally:
1. 'Modern Wicca: A History from Gerald Gardner to the Present' by Michael Howard (I have this book since a while),
2. 'Wicca Made Easy: Awaken the Divine Magic Within You' by Phyllis Curott (Ordered this book today, should arrive in about 2 weeks).

After my positive decision, it still might take a while before my initiation happens, because I wish to join the Circle/Coven of the Wiccan High Priestess, Phylis Curott, and She lives in the U.S.A. - quite a distance from Poland, where I live.

Crystal.

Ordered on wicca.org website, finally it arrived.

Ordered because i love beauty of crystals and candles ... of incense sticks, black cat and raven figurines too.

i like simple beauty of TAROT Tools as well: Athamé, Chalice, Wand and Pentacle.

Asked: 'How candles and crystals can be used to do magic' in facebook's wicca group.

It seem it's a mountain crystal / pl: kryształ górski / that has neutral properties, can be used as a catalyst for intent ... it should help one's intent wish to realize.

Candles are catalysts too.

It's important to study what colors symbolize, in case of white translucent crystal it can be any colour - white can be split into a rainbow of many colours.

I've learned that this crystal either can store intent - wish, and in this case should be kept close until wish is realized.

I've learned that this crystal - when wish isn't stored - absorbs and purifies negative energies ... and should be cleaned under cold water frequently.

What i'll use it for?

... i'll offer it to a buddhist woman i love ... so she can choose what intent it can hold.

... perhaps she will agree to include her, also to include a friend - Nerialka on DeviantArt, and also to include me ... in a friendship bond intent-wish, for a friendship between us three.

... perhaps she will agree to use air & water elements - mist together - mist that can protect our secrets.

... mist protects secrets, hard to see in mist.

... cursed mist protects differently ... curse can take form of poisonous mist, or radioactive mist, etc.

-=- Athamé & Chalice -=-

On last thing - i learned that while crystals are nice and cool, process of gathering them is 'dirty' - people who gather are underpaid, work in terrible conditions, damaging ecosystem, nature in process.

... where's balance? should i buy more of such crystals? if yes ... how many?

Sabbats & Esbats in Wicca.

'THE SABBAT TRADITIONS

The Wheel of the Year is a Neo-pagan term used to describe the annual cycle of the Earth's seasons, and it tells the story of the life of the God and Goddess. While some traditions refer to the God as the consort or companion of the Goddess, they are most often viewed as equals. Neither is complete without the other.

In this cycle, the God (Sun) is reborn each Yule, (Winter Solstice) after the longest night of the year. As the days become longer, he grows in power and warms the cold Earth. She awakens from her slumber to renew and flourish.

Then on Litha (Summer Solstice), the God once again begins to weaken and the days grow shorter. As the Sun's power slowly fades, the Earth falls asleep and waits for his rebirth on the next Winter Solstice.

Our ancestors adjusted their lives to these seasonal changes. They followed both the solar and lunar cycles of the year.

These ever-changing cycles became known as the Wheel of the Year. There are eight Sabbats. Four of them, sometimes referred to as the Greater Sabbats, are based on old Celtic festivals. The other four, or lesser Sabbats, are based on the first days of the four seasons. These are also known as solstices and equinoxes. A solstice is the time of year when the sun reaches its highest or lowest point in the sky, marking the longest and shortest days of the year. In the northern hemisphere, the summer solstice is celebrated around June 21, when the sun reaches its northernmost point on the celestial sphere. The winter solstice happens around December 22. Due to seasonal differences, these celebrations are reversed in the southern hemisphere.

The word equinox is derived from the Latin equus (equal) and nox (night). An equinox happens twice a year when night and day are about the same length. The Sun is crossing the Equator (an imaginary line around the middle of the Earth) and it is an equal distance from the North Pole and the South Pole. Since summer and winter seasons are opposite on either side of the equator in the northern hemisphere the equinox in September is known as the "autumnal (fall) equinox". However, in the southern hemisphere, September is the time of the "spring (vernal) equinox". Although astronomically the solstices and equinoxes mark the beginning of the seasons, to our ancestors, they actually represented the midpoint of each season. This is why October 31 to November 1 (Samhain) was traditionally celebrated as the end of fall and the beginning of winter, while the Winter solstice was considered the midpoint of winter. Spring began on February 2 (Imbolc), summer on May 1 (Beltane), and autumn on August 1 (Lughnasadh or Lammas). It’s important to note that these dates are not the same around the world. The Sabbat dates in this book are for the Northern Hemisphere. In the Southern Hemisphere these festivals are commonly shifted by six months to match the local seasons. You will want to adjust your celebrations accordingly.

Keeping in tune with nature’s cycles may sound a bit complicated, but it’s not. The bottom line is to simply celebrate the change in seasons and enjoy whatever activity is appropriate for the current time of year in YOUR part of the world. And don’t make your rituals too complicated. They should be fun and a true expression of thankfulness for what is to come. Your Sabbat celebrations and Esbat rituals should always express your love and appreciation for nature. Be sure to give thanks for all the little blessings in your life, like the soft grass beneath your feet, the colorful flowers in your garden or an old tree that provides you with shelter from the weather. Being grateful for the blessings we have already received can cast a transforming blanket of joy and peace over our mundane life experiences.

In Wicca, the "THREE-FOLD LAW OF RETURN" or “LAW OF THREE” teaches that whatever we do, for good or ill, will be returned to us threefold. Thus, the very act of sending thoughts and feelings of gratitude out will guarantee that you’ll have even more to be grateful about in the future. The more things you find to be thankful for, the faster new Divine blessings will start flowing into your life. This is a well-known Universal Law also referred to as the Law of Attraction!

If your rituals seem empty because you simply memorize words and perform activities that have no meaning to you, there is not much benefit in doing them. One reader shared with me that she did not need a special altar or a certain color candle for special occasions. All she needed was to be outside and concentrate on a flower, a star, the moon, the warmth of the sun, the cool earth, or listen to some rippling water to feel connected to all that grows and lives. This person is simply doing what feels right to her. It’s up to you whether you celebrate the seasons or not, but if you do, choose activities, rituals and/or foods that make each occasion enjoyable for YOU. Tip: If you miss the exact day or time that a Sabbat is normally celebrated, it's not the end of the world. What's MOST important is to celebrate when you can. Strive continually to balance your life with the rhythms of the natural world. Every time you stop to observe nature's cycles and take part in an activity that honors the change in the season, the ordinary becomes extraordinary and your life becomes more magical.'

-- Zoe, Kardia. 'Living Wicca Today Pagan Holidays & Earth Magic: A Beginner's Guide to Wiccan Traditions and Practices' (pp. 12-14).

ESBATS

'Esbats & Moon Lore The face of the Moon doth change its aspect, yet is ever the same; . As the Holy Law doth reveal a different face to each of the Children of Light, yet is unchanged in its essence.'

-- Zoe, Kardia. 'Living Wicca Today Pagan Holidays & Earth Magic: A Beginner's Guide to Wiccan Traditions and Practices' (p. 54).

'While solar activity is the basis for Sabbat celebrations, Esbats are gatherings and rituals that are traditionally scheduled around the cycles of the Moon.

This is a popular time for initiation ceremonies, healing magic or other rituals that involve the lunar activity of the moon and are traditionally associated with the feminine energy or the Goddess.

Lunar observance and ritual are an important part of the Wiccan religion. During an Esbat, time is usually set aside to honor the God and Goddess. However, because the Moon is a symbol of the Goddess, some traditions may focus only on the feminine aspect of the Divine. The bottom line is there is no single, preferred way to celebrate an Esbat. Let your heart guide you and do whatever you feel most comfortable with.

The cycle of the Moon has traditionally been connected with the Triple Goddess. Her three aspects include the Maiden (Crescent Moon), the Mother (Full Moon), and the Crone (Dark Moon). Two specific energy paths are also linked to the moon cycle. These are waning (decreasing) and waxing (increasing).

Finally, there are thirteen Moons in a calendar year, and each is connected with a different type of energy, based on the season.

If this sounds complicated, just remember that it all boils down to simply following the increasing or decreasing energy of the moon and the natural flow of the seasons. When it comes to the seasons, we all know that it's best to work with Mother Nature, so we plant in the spring and harvest in the fall. The same logic applies when working with the cycles of the moon.  If you want to decrease, banish or remove a problem, many believe it is best to tackle that issue between the Full Moon and the New Moon, while the moon is waning or decreasing. The day or night of the New Moon is considered the strongest for banishing. On the other hand, spells or magic for increase, growth, and gain should be done after the New Moon, while it is waxing or increasing. The day or night of the Full Moon is considered the most powerful for increasing energy work. This type of Moon magic is ancient, and it is still practiced today.   Our ancestors knew that everyone was affected by the power of the Moon and they used Her influence to better their lives.  Those who practiced magic would use various lunar cycles to enhance their spells and rituals, tapping into the larger amounts of energy they believed existed during this time.  The mystical influence of the Moon is still acknowledged today by most Wiccan and Pagan groups and many plan their activities around the cycles of the moon, as they feel this gives their spellwork, healing or magical rituals a little additional energy.'

Wheel of the Year.

Since Wicca is derived from ancient European agrarian societies, the Sabbats are closely tied to the seasons and the calendar. Wiccans claim that the Sabbats have been followed for many thousands of years by ancient cultures such as Nordic, Celtic, Greek, etc. Following is a list of the eight primary Wiccan Sabbats. The dates referenced here are generally accepted by all Wiccans.

Major Sabbats:

Imbolc, Feb 1 or Feb 2,

Imbolc (Imbolg), which means "in milk", is a celebration of fertility and designates the middle of winter. Milk was traditionally poured out upon the ground as a type of offering. Associated with this are the colors white, pink, and red, the amethyst, turquoise, dill, Dragon's blood, frankincense, rosemary, and wildflowers. It is also known as Groundhog's Day, Candlemas, Blessing of the Plow, Disting, Feast of the Virgin, Festival of Milk,

Beltane, April 30 or May 1,

Beltane is the first holiday of summer and signifies the approach of summer and the death of winter. This is an ancient celebration of the return of fertility to the world after it passes through winter. It divided the Celtic year into winter and summer. It stresses human fertility. Associated with this festival is Boodstone, sapphire, frankincense, honeysuckle, Jasmine, St. John's Wort, rosemary, green, yellow, and red. It is also known as Beltaine, May Day, Roodmass, and Walpurgis.

Lughnasadh, Aug 1,

This festival marks the beginning of the harvest season and the middle of summer. The word probably derives from the god Lugh, the Celtic lord of light. Associated with Lughnasadh is Crabapple, ginseng, grapes, potato, berries, green, orange, yellow, and red. It is also known as Ceresalia, First Harvest, Lad Day, and Lammas.

Samhain, Oct 31 or Nov 1,

Samhain means "summer's end" and marks the beginning of winter. For most Wiccans, this is the new year and a time of reflection where the oldest let go and the new is anticipated. From ancient times it designates the end of the harvest season. Associated with the festival are the colors black and orange, obsidian, Onyx, apples, catnip, corn, pears, squash, wormwood. It is also known as Halloween, All Hallows Eve, Blood feast, Celtic New Year, Day of the Dead, Last Harvest, Winters Eve, etc.

History of Wicca.

'Wicca (i.e, modern neopagan witchcraft) is the only religion that England has given to the world. Wicca was founded, or perhaps created in a better world, by a retired civil servant, Gerald Brosseau Gardner (1884-1964) in the 1940s.

Gardner had left England as a young man in early 1900s to work as a tea planter, rubber plantation inspector, and Customs officer in the Far East, where he studied Eastern religions and the magical beliefs and practices of the indigenous peoples of Borneo and Malaysia.

On his frequent visits back to England on leave, he attended Spiritualist séances and studied psychic research.

In 1936 Gardner retired from Customs Service and returned home permanently.

He became involved in archaeology and naturism (for health reasons), joined the Folklore Society and the Ancient Druid Order, and was ordained as a minister in an unorthodox Christian sect known as the Ancient British Church.'

About Wicca.

Who Is God?

Wicca worships the Triple Goddess (typically comprised by the Virgin, Mother, and Wise Woman/Crone) which is associated with the waxing, full, and waning moon phases.

They also worship the Horned God, also known as Herne. This God and Goddess pair are sometimes given specific names and sometimes so revered as only to be named in ritual, simply called the Lady and the Lord.

Wiccans believe that for the Divine to be complete and whole, it must be both male and female.

All gods and goddesses, even of various faiths, are accepted as different aspects of one greater Divine Power.

Like in other forms of Paganism, Wiccans also worship nature as divine.

Where Did We Come From? And Why Are We Here?

Wicca teaches reincarnation, in which the spirit is reborn to meet again the people with whom they had close personal connections in previous lives.

Unlike other reincarnation beliefs, Wiccans believe that the goal is not to escape reincarnation on earth but to enjoy experiencing life repeatedly until the spirit has learned everything it possibly can.

Once this has happened, and the spirit no longer reincarnates, it enters a blissful realm called 'the land of youth' or 'summerland.'

Some Wiccans, however, do not believe in reincarnation and instead embrace a more naturalist ending of death, with the human bodies’ molecules decaying and returning to the earth, incorporated into other entities.

The ultimate goal of the practice on earth is 'deep communion with the powers of Nature and of the human psyche, leading to a spiritual transformation of the self.'

Humans are here to worship the God and Goddess and reawaken one’s self to oneness with the universe.
